Six Little Miracles

The idea for StoryReader was born when recording book narrations for our own grandchildren.

We had been blessed with six of these little miracles in as many years. Before retiring, my husband Jonathan, among many other things, had been a professional voice over artist. As a family of readers, it made sense that he record their favorite storybooks. We wanted them to be able to have grandma and ‘pop-pop’ read them a story anytime, anywhere.

As he began recording each book, we were reminded just how painstaking the editing process could be. For a perfect narration you must adjust volume levels, remove stumbles, extra breaths and pauses, not to mention the need to add sound effects. It took hours for each book.

As much a ‘techie’ as an artist, Jonathan had been exploring the advancements in applying AI to voice technology. In early 2024, the tools had become good enough that, with some professional tweaking, he was able to effectively replicate the cadence and inflection of our voices reading bedtime stories.

After debugging the process, we tested the service with friends and family. That test went so well that we knew that if we made the process simple and low cost enough this could be a valuable service for other readers. With that StoryReader.org was born. We hope you’ll give the service a try and see just how easy it can be to create your own library of personalized audio books.
